We installed new bathroom tile in Bayside, Queens: new shower wall tile around the tub and new bathroom floor tile. The tile now runs through the whole room, from the tiled tub surround to the floor behind the vanity and toilet.
The scope
- Remove the old tile from the shower walls and bathroom floor
- Prepare the walls and floor so the new tile sits on a solid, even base
- Install new shower wall tile around the tub, including a recessed niche
- Continue the wall tile behind the vanity and toilet
- Install new bathroom floor tile
- Grout the tile and finish the edges
Carrying the same wall tile through the shower and the rest of the room keeps the bathroom reading as one clean surface, while the floor brings in a different texture underfoot.
Materials
The walls use rectangular tile laid in an offset pattern, with straight, even rows running around the tub and along the bathroom walls. The floor uses small round mosaic tile, often called penny-round mosaic, which suits bathroom floors and their slopes well.
