When grout cannot be saved
This shower in a Jackson Heights co-op had grout that kept turning black no matter how much it was cleaned. That usually means water is getting behind the tile. Regrouting would only hide it.
Our approach
- Removed the old wall tile down to the framing
- Replaced damp backer board and dried everything out
- Installed a waterproof membrane on every wall
- Set new matte tile with stain-resistant grout
Co-op buildings in Queens often have rules about work hours and debris. We plan around them so your neighbors stay happy and the board stays off your back.
The result
The shower now looks better and, more important, it is sealed. No more mold coming back every few weeks. Just a shower that works.
